Onalea and the Dandi Trio (Jeff Drummond on guitar, John Hyde on bass and Brent Van Dusen on percussion); achieve a timeless, lush sound, incorporating influences from old style jazz to folk to funk, all topped by Onalea’s unique and powerful vocal range. The group performs jazz treatments of a wide-ranging collection of repertoire including standards, original material and contemporary songs by the likes of Sinead O ‘Connor, Tom Waits and Radiohead.

John Hyde has been a freelance bassist since 1972. Most recently John has performed with Lee Konitz, Ralph Bowen and Hugh Fraser's Banff Jazz Orchestra as a senior artist in residence. John is also a composer of music for various projects most recently the CD Say Yes produced written and performed in conjunction with Ralf Buschmeyer and Andy Ericson . He has numerous recording, arranging and producing credits with many artists most recently including Jann Arden, Project Verismo, Onalea Gilbertson, Craig Korth, Amos Garrett, and the poet Sheri-D Wilson.
Jeff Drummond is a Calgary-based guitarist who has played across Canada, performing with such artists as Karl Roth, Tariq, David Thiaw and Cam Penner. In 2002 Jeff got involved with the theatrical tribute: Frank Zappa’s We’re Only in it for the Money.
Offstage, Jeff has been very active in the studio: engineering, producing and playing on many albums and projects including such bands and artists as Ground, Andrea Revel and Cam Penner.
Brent Van Dusen is a composer, percussionist, and educator. He holds degrees in Composition and Performance and has been a resident artist at the Banff Centre on numerous occasions.
Brent is an innovative composer and arranger for ensembles, dance, theatre, film and video. His compositions have been featured at festivals across Canada, Finland and Poland, and broadcast on the CBC and CKUA. His performance credits range from the Calgary Philharmonic to his world percussion group Conundrum; Chilean guitarist Oscar Lopez; Persian Fusion group Lambada; Canadian jazz icon Hugh Fraser; and the Whip It Out Ensemble, a Frank Zappa tribute band.
Recordings includes 8 CD’s as composer, arranger or producer and 33 CD’s as a featured percussionist. Recent live performances include Joni Mitchell: River for Alberta Theatre Projects and The Paper Bag Princess for Blue Collar Dance.
Brent has taught at the University of Lethbridge, Mount Royal College, Medicine Hat College and the University of Calgary.
